A Weekend to Remember

I shared with you Sunday that I would have a great story to share with you so get your kleenex ready. Inskip Baptist is down here this week and on Sunday they wanted to drive to Chichi. I wasn't sure if we could even make it up there because of the road construction but Denton their Youth Pastor had to have Lemon Crush. So we started our drive and I must say the roads were rough. We were on the bus for about 3 hours each way ad the driver hit every hole on the road. Finally around 11 we arrived at Chichi and the street market. Anyone who has been to Chichi with me knows that my first stop is the Pizza place. They have great food for a good price. If there is good food in Guatemala I will find it. Just ask all of my Queso Pie friends. Zach and I sat down and ordered our food. Then a guy named Paul joined us. Paul is here from Good Shepard church of Knoxville. After we ordered there was a little guy named Diego that came over and started to ask us to buy some of his trinkets. After saying no a few times he leaned on the table and ask us our names. I then ask him if he would like to join us. The owner of the resturaunt came by and he and I have been friends for a year or two and he is getting use to us adding little people to our tables. He looked at Diego and ask him what he would like to eat. I told him he could have anything he wanted. He ordered a big meal for a little guy but I was not worried because I knew he would eat every bite. So as we talked to him all of his friends started coming around. Diego looked at them and just grinned from ear to ear and I could tell he felt like he was somebody. It was so cool. A few trips ago we did something simaler with about 15 kids. We got our food and Diego started going to town. Then he got a piece of bread and started to make a sandwich. At first I thought he was making it to eat but he then called his sister over to the table from outside and gave it to her. Then about 6 more kids came in and our team fed them as well. As we ate Diego talked with us about his family and friends. Something that I have leared over the years of coming to Guatemala is that kids love to talk as long as you can show them the love of Christ. Diego is a kid that lives everyday on the streets trying to help his family eat. It is still hard to imagine all of the kids here in Guatemala that will go to bed tonight with out anythign in there stomach. One more story to tell you. We have a young man here at Casa that has been helping us a lot with everything. After being here for a few weeks, tonight we had him over for dinner. As we were eating our dinner we were all joking and talking and I noticed that this young man started to cry. I aks him what was wrong and he began to share how thankful he was that we would have him over. He shared about his Dad and how bad he hated him. Then he told us that he was so thankful that we allowed him into our home. He said he was crying because he was so happy because he felt like he was part of a family. We all started to cry and he then shared the most profound thing that I have heard since we have been here. He said that he would like to meet his Dad so that he could tell him that he loved him and that he forgave him for leaving him and his family. He went on to say that he has leaned here at Casa that if you do not forgive those who have done you wrong that you can not grow as a christian. Zach and Katie sat in dead silence as this young man poured out his heart to us. It was a moment that I will never forget. As we live and start our ministry here at Casa I am learning very quick that God is working so much in the lives of these children. I met with 25 teenagers tonight that are ready to go into our village in San Lucas onSaturday and share the gospel. With stories like this young man's I have no doubt that God is goign to use the kids of Casa to save a nation. please continue to pray for this weekend as our kids are excited. They also all agreed to do a bible study with me for the next few weeks. it has been a month and God is already doing some amazing things. Stay Tuned for more!!!! Mike
